Yoga
Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice that originated in ancient India, now practiced worldwide primarily for its physical postures, breathing techniques, and meditation.
References to yoga appear in ancient Indian texts including the Vedas and the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, which systematized yoga philosophy and practice over 2,000 years ago, originally as a path toward spiritual enlightenment.
Traditional yoga encompasses far more than physical postures (asanas), including ethical principles, breath control (pranayama), and meditation aimed at achieving a state of inner peace and unity.
Since the 20th century, yoga has spread globally, particularly the physical postural practice, and is now practiced by hundreds of millions of people worldwide for its physical and mental health benefits.
