High winds are ‘main concern’ in Rhodes wildfires

High winds forecast for Sunday are expected to hamper firefighters’ battle to contain a blaze burning out of control on the Greek island of Rhodes, where some 30,000 people have been forced to evacuate. “The winds are the main concern,” says FRANCE 24 correspondent Nathalie Savarticas, reporting from Kythira in Greece. “It’s going to be a very difficult day for the fire department,” she says, since “they have at least three active fronts burning on a very difficult mountainous region”.
