On Feb. 2, the Florence Douglas Center held its every-first-Monday, 1:30 to 3 p.m., Vallejo Senior Roundtable hosted by Tom Bartee, a former Vallejo City Council member. The guest speakers for the very informative meeting included Tracee Stacy, a Prevention and Early Access for Senior (PEAS) Education & Outreach Specialist for www.ChoiceInAging.org and Tara Beasley-Stansberry, a Planning Commissioner for www.CityOfVallejo.net and a candidate for Vallejo City Council District 5. Proxies for U.S. Rep. John Garamendi, State Senator Christopher Cabaldon, Assembly member Lori Wilson, and/or the Vallejo City Council usually attend the meetings. On Jan. 17, the Napa-Solano Building Trades held its successful 26th Annual Crab Feed at the Vallejo Veterans Memorial Building (VVMB) with over 500 in attendance. Pictured at left are some of the many VVMB volunteers and pictured at right in the kitchen are Vietnam War combat Veterans Steve Fox, U.S. Rep. Mike Thompson, and Hank Howard. On March 7 at 6 p.m. at 420 Admiral Callaghan Lane, the VVMB will hold itsnext much-needed fundraiser, "All you can eat crab, pasta, salad, garlic bread, and raffle" for only $70 per person. On Jan. 31, Rebuilding Together Solano County (RTSC) volunteers installed dozens of free smoke alarms and/or carbon monoxide detectors for residents of Vallejo Mobile Home Estates Park. RTSC also distributed Safe-At-Home backpacks (valued at $250 each) on Feb. 17-18 to veterans at the Mare Island VA Clinic on 201 Walnut Ave. and will do the same on Febl 21 at 9:30 a.m. Volunteers are needed to install free smoke alarms and/or carbon monoxide detectors for residents of Vallejo Olympia Mobile Home Park, 1101 Enterprise Street, Vallejo. While permanent pastor Father Glenn Jaron (left) was on bereavement leave, visiting priest Father Pierre Celestin Musoni (center) and Father Jess Soriano (right) gladly filled-in.
