BROOKVILLE — The Jefferson County History Center will hold its annual Bowdish Birthday Bash and open new exhibits from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28.
The history center invites the public to come celebrate Charlie Bowdish’s birthday with the reopening of the newly refurbished Bowdish Model Railroad & Miniatures Diorama and browse the new exhibits.
This year’s Bowdish Birthday Bash is dedicated to Bill McCracken, who passed away Feb. 8, and all of the many model buildings he built and animations he made for the Bowdish Animated Miniatures Diorama.
The first of the new exhibits is Living on the Land, located in the Parker Gallery on the first floor. It includes Turning Wilderness into Home: Jefferson County’s Pioneer Settlers, From Forests to Fields: Early Pioneer Farming and Triggers & Tunes: Guns & Fiddles in the 1800s.
The second is Jefferson County Women of World War II, located in the Grande Hall Photo Exhibit on the second floor. The exhibit showcases 22 women from Jefferson County who served in the war, both stateside and overseas, and features the military and civil career of Isobel Carrier Maslar, U.S. Navy Waves, as told in a video story interview by her children, Mike and Ila Maslar of the Summerville area.
