Chaffey College will celebrate the completion of its Juneteenth mural during a ceremony Feb. 26 in the college’s Library Learning Commons building. The artwork, called “We Go Forth to Build a Home Called Freedom” was created by Georgia-based artist Samuel Dunson.
The 72-by-160-inch multi-paneled mural incorporates the concept of Sankofa — a principle from the Akan people of Ghana, symbolizing the importance of reflecting on the past to shape the future. It encompasses themes of celebration, education, reflection and empowerment.
