The day has come where one of Disney’s beloved attractions is going extinct.
On Feb. 2, 2026, DinoLand U.S.A. inside Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close forever.
One of Animal Kingdom’s original attractions when the park opened on Earth Day in April 1998, DinoLand U.S.A. and the ride DINOSAUR will permanently close on Feb. 2, 2026.
This means that the last time to experience the ride, as well as the rest of DinoLand U.S.A., will be Feb. 1, 2026, according to the theme park’s page on the ride.

DINOSAUR was previously called “Countdown to Extinction” in the DinoLand U.S.A. area of the park.
Here are some of the other attractions that were in Animal Kingdom when the park opened in 1998 that are now closed and what has replaced them.
What are some of Animal Kingdom’s original attractions that are now closed?
There are a number of other DinoLand U.S.A. attractions in Disney’s Animal Kingdom that have already closed.
The following attractions that are already closed include the TriceraTop Spin, the Fossil Fun Games, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures and The Boneyard.

According to the Disney Tourist Blog, the last day to experience The Boneyard was Sept. 1, 2025.
Flights of Wonder, a stadium show about birds, as well as the stage show Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends in Camp Minnie Mickey, were other original Animal Kingdom attractions that closed for good.
Flights of Wonder closed on Jan. 1, 2018, while Pocahontas and Her Forest Friends closed on Sept. 28, 2008, according to Touring Plans.
There was also a popular attraction that many millennials may remember called, “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!” that closed on March 17, 2025.
What has replaced (or will replace) some of Animal Kingdom’s original attractions?
The 11-acre section of DinoLand U.S.A. will be replaced by Disney’s Tropical Americas, a land focusing on the regions in the Western Hemisphere north and south of the equator, according to Disney Parks Blog.

The new section is expected to feature two new rides based on the hit movies “Encanto” and “Indiana Jones,” and will be called “Pueblo Esperanza.”
While an official opening date hasn’t been set for the new land, it is expected to open in 2027.
Meanwhile, there is already one attraction that has replaced “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!” and that is the “Zootopia: Better Together” show.
The attraction takes place in the “Tree of Life” theater, and includes a 4D show, according to the theme park’s page on the ride.
There is also an animation experience that you can take part in, no artistic experience required!
