Diwali
Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is one of the most significant festivals in Hinduism, celebrated by hundreds of millions of people worldwide to symbolize the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
The festival typically spans five days and is associated with different legends depending on region and tradition, most commonly the return of the deity Lord Rama to his kingdom after 14 years of exile, as described in the Hindu epic the Ramayana.
Celebrations include lighting oil lamps and candles, elaborate fireworks displays, sharing sweets, and decorating homes with colorful patterns known as rangoli.
Diwali is also celebrated by Sikhs and Jains, each with their own distinct historical and religious associations with the festival, and has grown into a major cultural celebration recognized in many countries with significant South Asian communities worldwide.
