Rome
Rome is the capital of Italy and one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world, once the center of the Roman Empire and now home to Vatican City.
According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BCE by the twin brothers Romulus and Remus, and it grew from a small settlement into the capital of the Roman Republic and later the vast Roman Empire.
The city is home to numerous ancient landmarks, including the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, and the Pantheon, alongside Vatican City, an independent city-state and the spiritual center of the Catholic Church, located entirely within Rome's borders.
Rome has been continuously inhabited for nearly three thousand years, and its historic center was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1980, drawing millions of visitors annually to explore its layered history.
