Man investigated for suspected involvement in rearranging National Day floral decorations at Pandan Gardens

SINGAPORE: The police are investigating a 23-year-old man for his suspected involvement in a case of mischief.

At about 10.45am on Aug 6, the police were alerted to an incident along the open area of Block 404 Pandan Gardens.

Floral decorations for National Day celebrations were damaged and rearranged to form another word, with the video purportedly posted on TikTok, the police said in a news release on Saturday (Aug 10).

The Friends of Ayer Rajah Facebook page said it had made a police report on Aug 6, adding that the “hard work and effort put in by the Pandan Gardens Residents’ Network and residents have been marred by this distasteful act”.

Through follow-up investigations, the police established the identity of the suspect on Aug 7

Preliminary investigations revealed that the man allegedly committed the act of mischief, and had purportedly filmed and posted the video on TikTok.

The police added they have zero tolerance for such inconsiderate acts and will not hesitate to take firm actions against individuals who seek to damage public decorations or displays that symbolise the national spirit.

Police investigations against the suspect are ongoing. If found guilty of mischief, he can be jailed for up to two years, face a fine, or both.
