Liverpool secures much-needed win over West Ham 2-0 as Isak scores first goal for Reds

Liverpool secured a much needed morale-boost on Sunday with a 2-0 Premier League win away to West Ham.

Arne Slot’s side had lost their last three in all competitions and six of their previous seven in the league ahead of their victory over the Hammers.

At a press conference after the match, Slot was pressed on why he chose to leave star forward Mohammed Salah out of Sunday’s line up.

“I got this question already a lot. It’s every time we play a game when I don’t play Florian Wirtz, when I don’t play Alexander Isak, when I don’t play Hugo Ekitike, when I don’t play Mo Salah,” Slot said.

“It’s about that, which is normal because they’re all outstanding players and Mo has had an unbelievable career here at this club – and will have a very good future at this club because he’s such a special player. Four games in 10 days with only 14 to 15 outfield players available for us, then you have to decide once in a while to make a certain line-up and you try to pick the best line-up for every single game.”

It was a big night too for Liverpool striker Aleksander Isak, who ended his own high-profile drought with his first League goal since leaving Newcastle.

Britain’s most expensive player, Isak converted a cutback from Cody Gakpo an hour in to the game.

Gakpo scored himself in stoppage time after West Ham’s Lucas Paqueta was sent off for dissent.
