Another South Korean celebrity couple has announced their split. Aespa’s Karina and actor Lee Jae-wook have broken up just five weeks after they revealed their relationship on Feb 27.
Both their agencies confirmed the news to South Korean press on Tuesday (Apr 2).
Lee’s agency C-JeS Entertainment said the actor decided on the split as he wanted to “focus on acting at the moment”.
“The two have agreed to remain co-workers who support each other,” the agency added, and asked for fans’ understanding.
Meanwhile, Karina’s agency SM Entertainment confirmed the breakup but did not specify the reason for it.
The pair’s relationship had a rocky start. On Mar 5, Karina uploaded a photo of a handwritten apology letter to fans who were feeling “upset”.
“I want to do a good job healing MYs’ wounds. I have always been sincere towards MYs and even now, each and every MY is very precious to me,” she wrote, referring to the group’s fandom.
Karina debuted as a member of K-pop girl group Aespa in 2020. Aespa will be performing in Singapore for the very first time in July.
Lee debuted as an actor in 2018, and is known for his roles in Extraordinary You and Alchemy Of Souls. He is currently starring in the Disney+ series, The Impossible Heir.
