Circle Line rail expansion works completed ahead of schedule; normal operations to resume from Apr 6

SINGAPORE: All train services on the Circle Line (CCL) will resume normal operations from Saturday (Apr 6) as rail expansion works have been completed ahead of schedule, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Wednesday.

“We’re happy to update that the integration of the CCL with our existing rail network will be completed more than a month ahead of schedule … train services on the CCL will resume normal operations from this Saturday, Apr 6, 2024,” LTA said in a Facebook post.Β

The train services include Harbourfront, Telok Blangah, Labrador Park and Kent Ridge stations.

LTA and transport operator SMRT previously said that the CCL and Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) would run on shorter operating hours on some days due to rail expansion works from October 2023 to May 2024.

IntegratingΒ Stage 6 of CCL with the existing network required temporary service adjustments on the line, with the authorities then saying oneΒ platform each at Telok Blangah and HarbourFront stations would be temporarily closed from Jan 20 to May 24.

The track works were completed in 77 days instead of 126 days as initially planned, LTA said.

“This has allowed us to go back to business as usual and reduce the inconvenience to commuters,” the authority added.

“With this, the completion of the Circle Line is well underway, and we can look forward to the opening of the last three stations – Keppel, Cantonment, and Prince Edward – by 2026,” wrote Minister for Transport Chee Hong Tat on Facebook.
