Des Moines Public Schools superintendent detained by ICE

The superintendent of Des Moines Public Schools was detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Friday, according to the school district.

District officials said they don’t have any other confirmed information about Superintendent Ian Roberts’ detention or the “next potential steps.”

ICE said Roberts was in the country illegally from Guyana and had a final order of removal and no work authorization.

The ICE detainee website indicates that a man matching the name of the district superintendent is in ICE custody at the Pottawattamie County Jail.
