3 people injured after Malaysian shopping mall ceiling crashes

KUALA LUMPUR: Three people were injured after a ceiling at Megah Rise Mall in Petaling Jaya collapsed on Saturday (Oct 28) afternoon, amid strong winds and heavy rain in the area.

A 37-second video, which went viral on social media, showed the ceiling collapsing. Several security guards were also seen ushering people to safety.

Some visitors were heard screaming as they fled the premises.

In a Facebook post, the mall’s management expressed “deepest regret” over the incident.

“At approximately 3pm, during a period of strong winds and heavy rainfall, the ceiling of the car porch near the main entrance collapsed, resulting in minor injuries to three individuals,” it said, adding that all three have received necessary medical attention.
