Keanu Reeves Is Shadow in First 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3' Movie Trailer
Sonic the Hedgehog 3Â now has a trailer, giving fans their first earful of Keanu Reeves in the role of new nemesis Shadow the Hedgehog ahead of the movie’s Dec. 20 release.
In the trailer, Sonic (Ben Schwartz), Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessey) and Knuckles (Idris Elba) have a showdown with Shadow, who’s presented as a kind of dark twin to Sonic, but who’s fueled by grief and darkness instead of love and friendship. The gang enlists the help of Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey), who has grown his hair out. We also meet a new surprise character at the end of the trailer.
The series’ mix of humor, CGI characters and top voice talent have made the first two videogame adaptations hits. The first movie, released in 2020, made $302 million worldwide and the sequel performed even better, earning $405 million. Both are streaming on Paramount Plus.
The Shadow character was introduced in a mid-credits scene after Sonic 2, but the character didn’t speak in that scene. The third movie in the trilogy was announced in early 2022.
