NEA stops daily haze advisory with improvement in situation, forecast of wet weather
SINGAPORE: The National Environment Agency (NEA) will stop issuing daily haze advisories from Tuesday (Oct 24) as the situation has improved and more rainy weather is forecast.
The chance of transboundary haze affecting Singapore is low for the rest of 2023, NEA said in a media release, adding that the ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) has also lowered the haze alert level for the southern Southeast Asia region.
It was downgraded from Level 2, indicating a risk of transboundary haze in the region, to Level 1, indicating dry season.
“There have been showers over Singapore and the surrounding region in the past week. Hotspot counts over Sumatra have remained low and stable, with no significant transboundary haze affecting Singapore recently,” said NEA.
“The region is expected to see wetter conditions overall in the coming weeks. With the transition to the inter-monsoon season from end-October 2023, we expect more rainfall to the region with light and variable winds for the months of November and December 2023.”
NEA added that it will continue to monitor the situation and resume daily advisories if necessary.
The agency began issuing daily haze advisories on Oct 7, when Singapore’s air quality fell into the unhealthy range for the first time since 2019.
However, the skies have mostly been clear since then as rain over Singapore and the surrounding region lowered the likelihood of haze.
Further updates are available on the NEA haze microsite as well as its myENV mobile app. Information on the distribution of hotspots detected over the past fortnight in the region can be found on the ASMC website.
