No reports of Singaporeans affected by Japan earthquake: MFA
SINGAPORE: There are currently no reports of any Singaporeans affected by the earthquake in Japan, Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said on Tuesday (Jan 2), as it extended its condolences to those affected.
On New Year’s Day, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.6 struck Japan, killing at least 48 people.
More than 140 tremors have been detected since the quake first hit on Monday, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency, which warned more strong shocks could hit in the coming days.
The ministry added it has reached out to e-registered Singaporeans in the regions affected by the earthquake and for which tsunami warnings had been issued, including Ishikawa, Niigata, Toyama and Yamagata prefectures.
“The Singapore Government extends condolences to Japan and the families affected by the Ishikawa earthquake,” MFA said.
