A law enforcement officer was injured after an active shooter was reported at Emory University’s Atlanta campus on Friday.
The Atlanta Police Department said the suspect is now dead.
Sources told ABC News that local police encountered a suspect and attempted to engage the person when gunfire was exchanged.
Police became aware of the heavily armed suspect, who was located on the roof of the Emory Point CVS, after shots were fired, sources told ABC News.
A police officer sustained serious injury in the exchange of gunfire with the suspect, sources said.

A shelter-in-place order was put in place and later lifted. “RUN. HIDE. FIGHT. Avoid the area,” the university said in an alert Friday afternoon.
The school campus is located near the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) headquarters. It was not immediately clear if the shooting was related to the federal agency.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp released a statement on X thanking first responders for rushing “toward the danger to subdue the shooter and save lives.”
“We ask that you join us in holding them in our prayers, along with those harmed this evening near the CDC Center,” Kemp wrote.
FBI Atlanta also responded to the incident.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr released a statement Friday, saying, “We’re horrified by the news out of Emory University and praying for the safety of the entire campus community.”
The White House is monitoring the situation, an official told ABC News.
