Singaporean man found dead days after car plunges into Penang ravine

GEORGE TOWN, Penang: The body of a Singaporean man, who was believed to have been involved in an road accident in Penang before plunging 45m into a ravine, was found on Tuesday (Mar 12).

The man, identified by the New Straits Times as Chew Wei Fung, was reported missing on Mar 9.

Penang’s Fire and Rescue Department assistant fire superintendent Muzzamer Mohd Salleh said they received an emergency call at 1pm.

Firefighter teams from Jalan Perak and Paya Terubong Fire and Rescue Stations were dispatched to the scene near Jalan Paya Terubong, which is one of the main roads on the island.

“It is believed that the victim was involved in an accident before the vehicle plunged into the ravine,” he said. “However, his body was found outside the vehicle so he may have been thrown out or he came out of the crashed vehicle by himself.”

He added that the man was found with injuries all over his body and that the body was handled over to the police for further action.

A family member said the 29-year-old was driving a Proton Persona belonging to his girlfriend before he was reported missing.

He also said the last time the victim contacted him was around 1am, telling him that he was on his way home to Alor Vista near Relau.

This is the second fatal road accident involving a Singaporean reported in Malaysia in recent days.

On Monday, another Singaporean man was among two people killed following a crash between a trailer lorry and a tour van in Sabah.
