You Can Now Use ChatGPT to Drool Over Houses You Can't Afford

There’s something special to me about logging into real-estate site Zillow and scrolling through hundreds of listings for homes I’ll never be able to afford. It’s also especially sacred when I click into a listing for a mega-mansion and begin to pick apart all of the silly design choices. “Ew, you really went with that backsplash…”

It’s an activity that is aspirational, delusional and now, AI-driven.

At OpenAI’s Dev Day on Monday, the company announced that it’s launching a Zillow app inside ChatGPT — one of the first to go live in OpenAI’s new app ecosystem. The feature lets you bring your real estate doomscrolling habit straight into the chatbot.

You can type, “Zillow, show me homes under $800K in Tampa,” and ChatGPT will pull up live listings, with photos, maps and prices. From there, you can click through to Zillow to schedule a tour or message an agent without leaving the ChatGPT conversation.

(Disclosure: Ziff Davis, CNET’s parent company, in April filed a lawsuit against ChatGPT maker OpenAI, alleging it infringed Ziff Davis copyrights in training and operating its AI systems.)

“The Zillow app in ChatGPT shows the power of AI to make real estate feel more human,” John Weisberg, head of AI at Zillow, said in a statement. “Together with OpenAI, we’re bringing a first-of-its-kind experience to millions — a conversational guide that makes finding a home faster, easier and more intuitive.”

The launch is part of a much larger push from OpenAI. CEO Sam Altman introduced the company’s new App SDK preview during the event, allowing developers to build apps directly into ChatGPT.

OpenAI is launching integration with partners Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Figma, Expedia, Spotify and Zillow, all available on Monday in English-speaking markets outside of the EU. ChatGPT is also planning to bring apps to EU users soon.

More partners are slated to launch later this year, including DoorDash, Peloton, Uber, TripAdvisor, OpenTable, Target and more. That means users can interact with third-party services without leaving the chatbot conversation.
