Tropical Storm Harold makes landfall on Padre Island, Texas: Latest forecast
Heavy rain, gusty winds and flooding are possible.
Tropical Storm Harold made landfall on Padre Island, Texas, Tuesday morning as heavy rain and strong winds slammed the region.
Flash flooding, storm surge and gusty winds up to 50 mph are ongoing along the Texas coast.
A flash flood warning is in effect for Corpus Christi as rainfall rates reach 2 inches per hour.
Most areas are forecast to see 2 to 3 inches of rain but isolated areas could see 6 inches.
“The good news is that the bulk of this rainfall will be beneficial for the drought-stricken region, but too much rainfall too fast could lead to isolated to scattered instances of flash flooding,” the National Weather Service Weather Prediction Center said Tuesday.
Conditions will improve Tuesday evening as Harold weakens and moves inland across Texas. But flood watches will remain in effect in the western part of the state as rain hits the region on Wednesday.
