Video. Storm Martinho triggers flood warnings and damage across Spain

Updated:

Storm Martinho causes widespread damage and flooding risks in Spain, with Madrid facing record rainfall and Galicia and Andalusia experiencing strong winds and disruptions.

Authorities in Madrid have issued a warning for potential flooding as Storm Martinho brings heavy rainfall to the Spanish capital.

Emergency services have urged “maximum caution” in areas around the unchannelled sections of the River Manzanares. This March has already been confirmed as the wettest on record, and Madrid is on track to break yearly rainfall records.

In Galicia, the storm caused over 400 incidents overnight. Winds reaching 166 km/h uprooted trees and tore off rooftops.

Meanwhile, in Andalusia, powerful gusts caused havoc in the coastal town of El Rompido, Cartaya, damaging homes and restaurant terraces.

Authorities across Spain remain on high alert as Martinho continues to batter the country.
