The following day, President Joe Biden also paid his respects to the 39th president. Biden was the first sitting senator to endorse Carter’s presidential campaign in 1976.
Reflecting on their connection, Biden said, “Jimmy Carter’s friendship taught me, and his life taught me, that strength of character is more than the title or power we hold.”
“I miss him,” he added.
