In Spain’s Verín, thousands celebrated ‘Xoves de Comadres,’ marking the start of the Spanish Carnival with restaurant dinners, charanga bands and elaborate costumes.

Thousands gathered in Spain’s northwestern town of Verín to celebrate “Xoves de Comadres,” a night dedicated to female friendship and the start of the Spanish Carnival season.

Restaurants were booked months in advance, and hosted groups who enjoyed dinner before heading out for a lively night of festivities. Charanga bands performed in the restaurants, adding to the jovial atmosphere. Participants, including men in women’s costumes, wore elaborate outfits.

The Verín Carnival, one of Spain’s oldest and longest festivals, is recognised for its cultural and touristic significance.
