Early Life

Justin Drew Bieber was born on March 1, 1994, in London, Ontario, Canada, and was raised in Stratford, Ontario. He was born to Jeremy Jack Bieber and Patricia Lynn Mallette, who raised him primarily as a single mother. From a young age, Bieber demonstrated an interest in music, teaching himself to play the drums, piano, guitar, and trumpet. His mother posted videos of him performing covers of various R&B songs on YouTube, which would prove instrumental in launching his career.

Discovery and Early Career

In 2008, talent manager Scooter Braun discovered Bieber's YouTube videos while searching for a different artist online. Braun arranged for Bieber to meet R&B singer and producer Usher, which led to Bieber signing with RBMG Records, a joint venture between Braun's company and Usher's record label, distributed through Island Records. Bieber released his debut extended play, My World, in November 2009. The EP debuted at number five on the Billboard 200 and produced the single "One Time," which reached the top ten in several countries. He became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut album chart on the Billboard Hot 100.

Rise to Global Fame

Bieber's full-length debut studio album, My World 2.0, was released in March 2010 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, making him the youngest solo male act to top the chart since Stevie Wonder in 1963. The album included the hit single "Baby," featuring rapper Ludacris, which became one of the most-viewed videos on YouTube at the time of its release. His popularity grew rapidly, and he became a significant cultural phenomenon, particularly among young audiences worldwide. A 3D biographical concert film, Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, was released in February 2011 and was a commercial success.

Continued Music Career

Bieber released his second studio album, Under the Mistletoe, a holiday album, in 2011, followed by Believe in 2012, which marked a more mature musical direction. He returned in 2015 with the album Purpose, which produced the chart-topping singles "What Do You Mean?," "Sorry," and "Love Yourself." The album was a critical and commercial success and won the Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording for the song "Where Are Ü Now," a collaboration with Jack Ü. His fifth studio album, Changes, was released in February 2020 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. He followed this with Justice in March 2021, which also reached number one in multiple countries.

In 2022, he announced he had been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt syndrome, a condition caused by the varicella-zoster virus that resulted in partial facial paralysis, leading him to postpone tour dates for medical recovery.
