Singaporean actor-singer Aliff Aziz has refused to divorce his wife, Malaysian actress Bella Astillah.
Aliff, 33, arrived at the Federal Territories Syariah Lower Court on Thursday (Apr 4) for the second court hearing for Bella’s Mar 11 fast-track divorce application. The Malaysia-based singer-actor was not present at the first court hearing on Mar 13 due to scheduling conflicts.
“The last few weeks have been a rollercoaster ride for me. Everyone involved must feel the same and so, for myself, I will do all I can to save my marriage for my children,” said Aliff, as reported by Malaysian media outlets.
“I missed my kids and I’ve made a mistake. I’ve made many mistakes but this is not the end, this is not a decision that we can make without thinking things through.”
He added that he still loved Bella. They have two children together.
Meanwhile, Bella, whose real name is Dayang Nabellah Awang Astillah, told reporters outside the court that she was surprised by Aliff’s decision and was “very tired”.
“I did not see this coming and thought everything would be resolved today. Divorce is the one thing I fear most, which is why I’ve been trying to (fix our marriage) for years. But I think I’ve had enough now,” said the 30-year-old actress.
As the couple could not reach an agreement, the Syariah Lower Court ordered them to return to court on Jun 4 to appoint a conciliatory committee in their divorce case.
On Apr 3, Bella accused Aliff of cheating on her 11 times, including with her younger sister Eriqa in an interview with Malaysian media.
“I loved Aliff so much to the point I threw away my own family. I never talked about this before, but I have to because even people I’ve looked up to, like my in-laws, have turned against me,” she said.
“Disowning my sister but not Aliff was my biggest mistake and I regret it.”
Bella also admitted that she had been involved with Malaysian actor Muaz Zabir, 27, last year but insisted that it was just to make Aliff jealous.
This divorce was sparked by the Aliff’s khalwat (close proximity) case with Malaysian actress Ruhainies, 31.
Aliff and Bella first got married in 2016 before they divorced in 2019 after Aliff was accused of cheating. They later reconciled in 2020.
