UK local elections: Polls open across England in ballot test for Sunak as PM – France 24

Polls have opened a short while ago for local elections across the UK. More than 8 thousand seats are being contested across England and parts of Northern Ireland. It’s seen as a big test for the Conservative prime minister Rishi Sunak, with with party braced for heavy losses, after a choatic few years. The opposition labour party is polling ahead of the Conservatives, and with the general elections in two years, Keir Starmer is the current favourite to become the next leader.
