Early Life
Aubrey Drake Graham was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was raised primarily by his mother, Sandi Graham, after his parents separated when he was five years old. His father, Dennis Graham, is an American from Memphis, Tennessee, who worked as a drummer. Drake attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute and later Vaughan Road Academy in Toronto. He was raised in the Jewish faith through his mother's side of the family and had his Bar Mitzvah at age 13.
Acting Career
Drake began his career as an actor, landing the role of Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2001. He appeared on the show until 2007, gaining recognition across Canada. His character, a student who becomes paralyzed after being shot, was one of the show's central figures during his tenure.
Music Career
Drake began pursuing music seriously while still acting on Degrassi. He independently released his debut mixtape, Room for Improvement, in 2006, followed by Comeback Season in 2007 and So Far Gone in 2009. The mixtape So Far Gone attracted widespread attention and led to him signing with Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Republic Records.
