Early Life

Aubrey Drake Graham was born on October 24, 1986, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He was raised primarily by his mother, Sandi Graham, after his parents separated when he was five years old. His father, Dennis Graham, is an American from Memphis, Tennessee, who worked as a drummer. Drake attended Forest Hill Collegiate Institute and later Vaughan Road Academy in Toronto. He was raised in the Jewish faith through his mother's side of the family and had his Bar Mitzvah at age 13.

Acting Career

Drake began his career as an actor, landing the role of Jimmy Brooks on the Canadian teen drama series Degrassi: The Next Generation in 2001. He appeared on the show until 2007, gaining recognition across Canada. His character, a student who becomes paralyzed after being shot, was one of the show's central figures during his tenure.

Music Career

Drake began pursuing music seriously while still acting on Degrassi. He independently released his debut mixtape, Room for Improvement, in 2006, followed by Comeback Season in 2007 and So Far Gone in 2009. The mixtape So Far Gone attracted widespread attention and led to him signing with Young Money Entertainment, Cash Money Records, and Republic Records.

His debut studio album, Thank Me Later, was released in June 2010 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200. Subsequent albums including Take Care (2011), Nothing Was the Same (2013), Views (2016), Scorpion (2018), Certified Lover Boy (2021), and Her Loss (2022, with 21 Savage) all achieved significant commercial success. Take Care won the Grammy Award for Best Rap Album in 2013.

Drake is credited with popularizing a style that blends introspective rap lyrics with melodic R&B singing. He founded the record label OVO Sound in 2012 alongside producer Noah Shebib and Oliver El-Khatib. His annual OVO Fest music festival in Toronto became a notable cultural event. Drake holds numerous Billboard chart records, including the most charted songs in the history of the Billboard Hot 100.

Business Ventures

Beyond music, Drake has pursued multiple business interests. He co-founded the clothing line October's Very Own (OVO), which operates retail stores in several cities. He has also been involved in the restaurant industry and has had brand partnerships with companies including Apple Music and Virginia Black whiskey. Drake holds a minority ownership stake in the esports organization 100 Thieves.

Awards and Recognition

Drake has received numerous awards throughout his career, including four Grammy Awards, six American Music Awards, and 27 Billboard Music Awards. He has been recognized by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as one of the best-selling music artists in the United States. In 2016, he received the title of Global Ambassador for the Toronto Raptors of the NBA.

Personal Life

Drake has a son named Adonis Graham, born in October 2017, with French artist Sophie Brussaux. He publicly acknowledged his son's existence in June 2018. Drake is known for maintaining close ties to Toronto, frequently referencing the city in his music and public life.
