Eiffel Tower

The Eiffel Tower is a wrought-iron lattice tower in Paris, France, built as the entrance arch for the 1889 World's Fair and now one of the most recognizable structures in the world.

Designed by engineer Gustave Eiffel's company, the tower was initially criticized by many Parisian artists and intellectuals as an eyesore, and was only meant to stand for 20 years before being dismantled. It was saved largely because of its usefulness as a radio transmission tower.

Standing 330 meters (1,083 feet) tall, it was the tallest man-made structure in the world for 41 years, until the completion of the Chrysler Building in New York in 1930.

Today, the Eiffel Tower attracts millions of visitors annually and is one of the most-visited paid monuments in the world, serving as an enduring symbol of Paris and France.
